OVERVIEW

Yodi Naturals is a website where women find DIY hair care recipes created by other women with similar hair types. This platform was created for women to be educated with DIY hair care.

The goal of this project was to create a user friendly website. Gaining an audience to educate DIYers about hair care products and enabling creators to publish their hair recipes.

40 Survey Response and 7 Interviews

Key Findings:

  • Women considering DIY hair care are concerned about the time it will take.

  • Women check the ingredients in their hair products. Ingredients are important.

  • Hair concerns and types came up constantly.

  • Women trust their stylists and close friends to tell them what to do with their hair. They need assurance that a hair treatment will “work.”

DIYer Problem

  • The DIYer is struggling to manage and maintain their unpredictable hair because there is no reliable single resource that caters to all different types of hair.The DIYer has little time to spend going through trial and error with store bought and homemade hair products to no avail.

DIYer Solution

  • To help the busy DIYer who’s tired of trying products and recipes get control over their unpredictable hair, we will create a website that aggregates hair care recipes that benefit all different hair types from trusted creators, saving them the trouble of endless trial and error.

Creator Problem

  • The creator needs a place to share their homemade hair care recipes so that they can help people who are dissatisfied with their hair.

Creator Solution

  • The creator will get a website where they can share their homemade hair care recipes and connect with and help DIYers.

Key Findings:

  • No home button.

  • User wants to see reviews before clicking on individual recipe

  • Users didn’t know they needed to log in to share a recipe

  • Hesitation with needing to sign up from “upload recipe button”

  • User went to click “reviews” in description on single recipe page

  • User has no particular interest in top creators on Community page

Implementations:

  • Add home button

  • Add star rating/review to individual recipe preview blocks on recipes page

  • Change log in/sign up to “SHARE A RECIPE”

  • Add action statement to sign in/sign up page

  • Link review stars down to reviews section on Recipe page

  • Remove top creators and status badges as no one wanted them

Landing Page

All our client had to show was an online landing page. We had extra time at the end of the project, so we designed a new landing page that tied to the same website prototype concept.

Next steps

  • Further research into the possibilities for the community page to understand how to

  • make a feature that targets an additional user pain point

  • A/B testing for the order of filter items 

  • Integrate “where to buy” feature so people know where to buy ingredients.

  • Create graphics for shelf life and storage specifications for recipe pages.

  • Create screens for the sign up and newsletter flows.
